So I was going to make a thread for Y&R only, but I thought why not just have a soap opera thread in general? We can discuss all things about our soaps ... hopefully 2010 will be a cancellation FREE year, even though we'll be losing ATWT in September.

My main point of the thread was going to be to discuss the Billy episode on Y&R. He goes into the future with John to see how he has f**ked up his life. I thought it was pretty well done, although I didn't enjoy the episode as much as I did the Nicholas and Michael Christmas episodes in the past.

I love ATWT! I hope another station picks it up and saves it, or CBS gets a grip and realizes what a BIG mistake it is cancelling it.

We all know I am the BIGGEST Nina Webster (Y&R) fan on the planet so I am very happy they are pairing her with Paul. Hopefully this means we will be seeing a lot more of Nina in the future!

I'm loving Nina back on Y&R too. Too bad they completely ruined the return of Philip by rushing it then throwing him off air for two months. Eh.

I like Nina, she's OK. Not my favourite, but not my least favourite!

So here's my next question: Y&R has made a HUGE deal of Cassie's drawing of Nicholas/Sharon/Cassie/Noah ... in the fire of Sharon's home recently, was the picture saved? I'm surprised her and Nicholas haven't mentioned this yet.

What one regime finds important, another may not, but they do not consider these things may be important to the loyal viewers. Which is maybe why this genre is on life support.

As you can see there's been quite a lot of writer turnover in the last ten or so years. I really blame Latham's stint for the state Y&R is in now. She rolled in there and changed everything and brought in a lot of new faces and told stories that didn't fit with what Y&R was about. Maria Arena Bell came in during the writers' strike and salvaged the show for a while, but even now it seems to be losing that momentum, which is, of course, reflected in the viewers that have been deserting the show in droves.

I used to be hooked on The Bold and the Beautiful, never missed a single episode but it just became so repetitive. Brooke and Ridge or Brooke, Ridge and Taylor. Give me strength! I was about to put a bullet in my head. It was getting ridiculous so I switched off and don't miss it at all. I caught an episode on Tuesday (it was a holiday here in Australia) and found it as boring as watching grass grow. Sadly the spark has died.

I'm much more hooked on the UK soaps - Coronation Street (is okayish), Emmerdale (is getting better) and EastEnders (simply can'y miss an episode).

I think since Maria took over things have been better. She's sort of been slowly undoing the damage that was done. THey have big things happeneing right now with Tucker being Kay's son (Jeanne Cooper is still one of th ebest actresses on daytime; her against Jess Walton is classic Y&R). The baby storyline is huge too. It's been Maria for awhile now, so I'm surprised the picture hasn't been mentioned.

I used to watch Coronation Street every saturday afternoon. I think we were behind, but one of the older females had a drinking porblem, and a younger women was dealing with nightmares. I was hooked, I never missed it.

I must say, I'm loving Stephen Nichols in the role of Tucker. He certainly adds a level of darkness to the role. I am enjoying this Victor/Adam secret plan to bring him down. Very interesting stuff.

I haven't caught SN as Tucker yet. I did, however, catch this new Malcolm, who is quite possibly the most miscast recast in soap history! This dude hasn't got a patch on Shemar Moore. If they were so insistant on recasting, they should have gone with the guy who was TEK on Days a few years ago.

I see the need to have Malcolm on the show though. It certainly gives Neil and Lily something else to play on. However, unless you can get Shemar, don't bring the character back. There are some people that are just not recastable, Shemar is one of them.

On a side note, who else is loving the return of Eric Braden and Melody Thomas Scott? Y&R clearly had a huge apiece missing when they were MIA. I'm glad they're back. Give Melody something to do though, please!
